Cooperative Learning Day at SDH Lippo Village: A Day of Discovery and Fellowship

At Sekolah Dian Harapan (SDH) Lippo Village, learning extends beyond the traditional classroom. On August 21, 2026, Grade 5 students experienced this through Cooperative Learning Day (CLD): a day of hands-on activities designed to encourage teamwork, inquiry, and joyful learning. Teachers and Grade 9 students prepared and facilitated four learning centres, giving younger students opportunities to explore alongside older schoolmates.

For parents who want to see what learning at SDH Lippo Village can look like, CLD offers a concrete example. Students did more than move from one activity to another. They solved problems together, discovered more about Indonesia, practised communicating their ideas, and observed details of the natural world.

Learning Together Across Grade Levels

Grade 5 students spent the day rotating through activities guided by Grade 9 teachers and students. This created a learning experience across grade levels, with each group taking a meaningful part.

For Grade 9 students, preparing and supporting the activities was an opportunity to practise servant leadership. They guided their younger peers and helped them take part in each challenge. Grade 5 students, in turn, could learn with the encouragement of older students serving as positive role models.

This shared experience reflects SDH Lippo Village’s commitment to holistic Christian education. Academic learning, relationships with others, and spiritual growth belong together. During CLD, students could practise working with one another while exploring the world God has made.

Ninth-grade students are demonstrating servant leadership by assisting younger classmates in a practical science activity involving a microscope.

Exploring God’s World Through Interactive Learning

Four centres brought together academic learning, games, and teamwork. Each invited Grade 5 students to participate actively and discover something for themselves.

Math Centre: Learning Through Strategy

At the Math Centre, students played a giant Snakes and Ladders game. To move forward on the board, teams first had to solve mathematical challenges together.

The game gave students a chance to put their mathematical thinking and problem-solving skills to work. It also made collaboration part of the challenge: students needed to share ideas and arrive at answers as a team.

Social Centre: Discovering Indonesia’s Rich Heritage

Interactive quizzes at the Social Centre introduced students to traditional houses, regional foods, folk songs, and Indonesian geography. Through the challenges, students discovered facts about their country and encountered the uniqueness of its different cultures and communities.

The activity encouraged students to appreciate this diversity as part of the richness of God’s creation.

Bahasa Indonesia Centre: Building Words and Ideas Together

At the Bahasa Indonesia Centre, students took part in Word Relay and Sentence Building games. They arranged words and constructed meaningful sentences while working against the clock.

To complete the activities, students had to think quickly, communicate clearly, and work together. Language became something they could practise through shared effort.

Science Centre: Discovering the Hidden World

At the Science Centre, students stepped into the role of young scientists. Using microscopes, they observed intricate structures that cannot be seen with the naked eye.

This hands-on experience invited them to look more closely at the natural world. What they observed offered another opportunity to consider the beauty, complexity, and design of God’s creation.

Learning Through the Students’ Eyes

The Grade 5 students’ enthusiasm was one of the highlights of the day. According to the reflections gathered by the unit, the Science Centre was a favourite for many students. Using scientific equipment made the experience of working like a scientist exciting and memorable. Others particularly enjoyed the Social Centre, where interactive challenges helped them discover more about Indonesia’s cultural heritage and geography.

Their responses show how meaningful learning can happen when students have room to explore, ask questions, collaborate, and discover for themselves. Cooperative Learning Day brought those opportunities together in a day shared by younger students, older students, and teachers. Soli Deo Gloria!
