Learning at SDH Global Karawang does not always happen inside the classroom. As part of the Kindergarten learning unit “Wonderfully Made,” our students stepped outside the classroom and into a real-life learning environment at Bene Dental Clinic in Galuhmas, Karawang.

For our Kindergarten students, a visit to the dentist became more than simply learning about teeth. It was an opportunity to discover how they can care for the bodies God has wonderfully made, while learning through interaction, observation, and hands-on activities.

Learning About Dental Health Through Real Experience

At Bene Dental Clinic, the students were welcomed into a child-friendly environment. They had the opportunity to meet the dentist, become familiar with the clinic, and learn about their teeth, proper toothbrushing, and simple habits that help keep their teeth and mouths healthy.

One of the highlights of the visit was the dental check-up. Guided by the dental team, the students had their teeth examined in a positive and age-appropriate setting. The visit helped them become more familiar with an experience that may initially feel unfamiliar or intimidating to young children.

The st

udents also enjoyed the clinic’s welcoming spaces, including its café and children’s playground. These spaces made the visit more enjoyable and gave the children opportunities to explore a different environment beyond their usual classroom setting.

Through this experience, students connected what they had learned in class with something they encounter in everyday life. They learned why caring for their teeth matters and how they can practise good habits each day.

Caring for Our Bodies as an Expression of Gratitude

The learning experience also gave the Kindergarten team an opportunity to reinforce an important truth: our bodies are gifts from God, and caring for them is part of how we respond with gratitude to Him.

For young children, this can begin with simple things—brushing their teeth properly, keeping their mouths clean, and taking care of their bodies. These everyday habits can help children gradually understand that caring for themselves is also a way of honouring God with the bodies He has entrusted to them.

The learning continued when the students returned to school. Together with their teachers, they practised brushing their teeth independently, putting what they had learned at Bene Dental Clinic into practice. This helped connect a one-day experience with a habit they can continue developing at home and at school.

A Meaningful Partnership Between School and Parents

This mini field trip was also made meaningful through the partnership between the school and parents. Bene Dental Clinic is owned by drg. Tantri Savitri, one of our students’ parents.

Her support is a wonderful example of how parents and the school can become partners in nurturing children—not only within the school community, but also beyond the classroom.

When parents share their knowledge, expertise, and resources, and the school provides opportunities for students to learn from them, children see how learning connects with the wider community.

This spirit of mutual support and trust is an important part of the partnership we seek to build with our parents at SDH Global Karawang.

Taking the Learning Home

Each child went home with a certificate marking the completion of their dental check-up, along with a dental report from Bene Dental Clinic outlining recommended follow-up treatment where needed.

Families were also offered a special discount for further dental treatment at the clinic, encouraging them to continue caring for their children’s oral health beyond the field trip.

The children returned to school with a greater awareness that healthy habits begin with small, everyday choices. They had discovered more about their wonderfully made bodies, learned about caring for their teeth, and practised brushing independently. Throughout the experience, they were reminded that caring for what God has given us is an expression of gratitude.

At SDH Global Karawang, we believe meaningful learning happens when children have opportunities to see, experience, ask questions, practise, and connect what they learn with real life. Through the support and trust between school and parents, even a visit to the dentist can become a meaningful step in helping children grow in knowledge, healthy habits, and faith.
