No Longer Two but One - Parent Gathering at SDH Lippo Village

is one of our parenting programs to assist parents in raising their children according to their age and generation. After three years we did not do the program, due to COVID 19 situation, on Friday, March 10, 2023, at 07.30-09.00, Sekolah Dian Harapan Lippo Village held this gathering again. The theme for this parent gathering is The Beauty in Husband-and- Wife Relationship and Communication with a specific title: No Longer Two but One. We invited Ibu Charlotte Priatna as the speaker.

In connection to our theme and the title, Ibu Charlotte explained that husband and wife relationship holds a crucial role in raising their children. The first social relationship was written in the bible as the God’s design to present human being on earth through family. This husband-and-wife relationship will bring impact to the relationship of parents and children in the future. Ibu Charlotte also said that husband and wife relationship is the priority of any other human interaction. During the gathering, Ibu Charlotte explained the meaning of being husband and wife, mom and dad, mother-in-law, and grandparents is different from the function of our role due to our spouse, children, son/ daughter in law, and grandchildren we have in the family.

According to Ibu Charlotte, communication is the key to husband-and-wife relationship. It is important to say appreciation and express the attention to our spouse. Facing and dealing with difficulties or conflict is a better way rather than avoiding them since husband and wife even though they are no longer two but one, they are still have different personalities, backgrounds, etc.. Husband and wife are encouraged to be at the same page in dealing with children or others. This means, disagreement or argumentation can happen between husband and wife, but one decision should come from husband’s and wife’s discussion or conversation to agree upon matters.

In this time, Ibu Charlotte also talked about how the presence of children needs to make husband and wife stay closer not the vice versa. We also were reminded of an essential message from this gathering which is forgiving is the key of husband-and-wife relationship. Forgiving is remembering without pain.

Closing the our gathering, Ibu Charlotte again encouraged us with a scripture of Proverbs 17:6 : Children’s children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children. This is to stress out that how our legacy to children of a faithful husband-and-wife relationship is very valuable.

We thank God for the opportunity to learn as parents to raise our children God’s way. Sekolah Dian Harapan Lippo Village has been our blessing to walk on the journey of being parents to leave a legacy whom God has planned. Thank you and God bless us all.
