SDH Lippo Village Junior School started the 4th quarter with new themes in each grade!

Updated: May 30, 2023

We were busy yet excited to have new themes and to do the Theme Launching. Why it is important to have theme launching? Because we believe that it will help the students to get ready to learn a new topic which is essential. Activities in theme launching are like pictures of what the students are going to learn in a certain unit of study. This activity aims that students are triggered to learn with great interest and hopefully that leads to better students' engagement.

So, here are the students, they are so excited doing the theme launching and ready to learn further and deeper. Let’s join the excitement because learning is fun.

7 BENEFITS OF TEACHING WITH THEMES

1. MODEL PERSEVERANCE & PATIENCE

Spending time on a topic teaches the students that there is so much “treasure below the surface”. Digging deep into a topic can help them become experts and develop a real appreciation for it. Some will even find that they want to continue exploring it on their own.

2. BUILD SCHEMA TOGETHER

Not all of the students have the same opportunities to learn outside the classroom. Themes give everyone an entry point and level out the playing field since we spend time building a knowledge base together.

3. THEY TAKE OWNERSHIP OF THEIR LEARNING

When the classes spend enough time on a topic, the students naturally start generating new questions and ideas. They eagerly bring in things they found at home that are related.

4. MAKE CONNECTIONS

Themes tie everything together and allow students to make connections between activities. It encourages them to think deeper and often leads them coming up with their own ways to extend their learning.

5. GENERATE EXCITEMENT

Once a new theme is introduced to the students, we will start to see the level of engagement increase. They love to guess what’s coming next!
