Teachers are lifelong learners. At times, educators may feel satisfied with the skills, capacity, and knowledge they already possess. However, as Ronald E. Osborn, Emeritus Professor of American Church History at the School of Theology in Claremont, California, wisely stated:

“Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow.”

In line with the school’s theme, “Growing in Christ,” one meaningful way educators continue to grow is by actively participating in professional development opportunities through workshops and training.

One such opportunity was the Maths 4th Edition Educator Training, held on Saturday, 20 September 2025. The training was organized by Mentari in collaboration with Marshall Cavendish – My Pals Are Here!, and was attended by six primary teachers from Sekolah Dian Harapan Daan Mogot as part of the school’s ongoing Teacher Training SDH Daan Mogot initiative.

The training focused on the essential connection between problem-solving, critical thinking, and a growth mindset—three interrelated skills that are crucial for effective mathematics learning. Together, these skills enable deeper understanding, perseverance, and confidence when facing challenges.

During the session, teachers explored four key elements of applying a Growth Mindset in mathematics lessons:

  1. The Meeting Point – connecting prior knowledge with new understanding

  2. Encouraging Multiple Solution Pathways – recognizing that there is more than one way to solve a problem

  3. Valuing Mistakes as Learning Opportunities – embracing errors as part of the growth process

  4. Collaboration Is Key – understanding that learning is most powerful when done together

The event encouraged open discussions among educators and inspired teachers to reflect on their own teaching practices. These meaningful conversations allowed teachers to exchange ideas and gain fresh perspectives on classroom instruction.

As a highlight of the event, Sekolah Dian Harapan Daan Mogot received a plaque and certificate of loyalty from Mentari and Marshall Cavendish Education, recognizing the school’s continued trust and commitment to the My Pals Are Here! Maths program.

Overall, the training helped shift teachers’ perspectives from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset, enabling them to embrace each new challenge as an opportunity for continued growth. Together, our teachers continue to grow, learn, and inspire—just as they guide students to do each day. (DC)
