Blended Learning at Sekolah Palembang Harapan: Moodle's Role in Student Empowerment

Sekolah Palembang Harapan incorporates blended learning

Education has transformed immensely from where it first began and needs to continually transform in the future. Consequently, teaching and learning are quite different in the 21st century when compared to previous centuries. There are several key factors driving change in education today with the focus on globalisation and social factors, including: Information Communication Technology (ICT).

Sekolah Palembang Harapan incorporates blended learning to ensure students are well equipped. Blended Learning is the strategic combination of online and in-person learning. The blend needs to provide students with some control over time, place, path, and/or pace. It also provides opportunities for students to develop knowledge and skills. Communication, Collaboration, Critical thinking and Creativity are developed when students are learning the course content.

Moodle has been part of students learning process in SPH. It was first introduced to moodle in 8th grade for TOEFL Class. Students got to learn independently from the teacher’s guide. They are given modules, videos, and assignments to enrich our learning process. The positive intake from using moodle is how they get to study independently and learn with their own pacing. This helped students to be more responsible and gave them more freedom in learning.

Hence, the main reasons to choose a blended teaching approach are to improve student learning and increase access and flexibility.  It's not simply a technology  integration, it involves online learning as a part of the student experience.
